CONSULTATION DOCUMENT FOR WOOD PACKAGING MATERIAL

A Delegated Regulation has been drafted under the Official Controls Regulation (EU) 2017/625 establishing the rules for official controls of wood packaging material introduced into the Union whether or not in use in the transport of commodities.

This draft document has now been presented for public consultation. It is available at: https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/initiatives/ares-2018-2570917_en. Comments can be made until 6 September 2019 when the consultation period ends. 

Official Controls Regulation and EU exit

Should an Implementation Period be agreed, we would be obliged to adopt the Official Controls Regulation in full. If no deal is agreed on exit from the EU, whilst it is our intention to adopt the principles of these laws, we will wish to review the final legislation before committing to adopt it in full. This fits with our commitment to maintain both the highest standards of biosecurity in the UK and the frictionless trade at the border
