With many BIFA members offering comprehensive warehousing operations, the trade association was interested in a recent article in Supply Management magazine that predicts around 3.4 million sq m of warehousing space will be built in the UK in 2021 as companies struggle to fulfil an explosion in online orders.
The article says that according to research by property consultancy Knight Frank, 3.4 million sq m of warehouse capacity is due to be constructed this year, marking a significant rise from the 2.1 million sq m built in 2020.
According to the article, overall investment in UK warehousing, including spending on new capacity as well as leases, more than doubled in the first half of this year, reaching £7.4 billion – more than twice the £2.7 billion spent in the same period in 2020.
